Welcome to Colonel Light Gardens Primary School

Welcome to Colonel Light Gardens and our wonderful school community.

It is a privilege to be the Principal of Colonel Light Gardens Primary School, a position that I commenced in 2022. I have quickly found that ‘CLG is definitely a great place to be’.

Colonel Light Gardens Primary School is highly regarded as a school of excellence. Our high standard of achievement is the result of a very professional and dedicated staff who strive to provide an engaging learning programme, catering for the needs of all learners. We challenge every student to be their best and celebrate their success.

Our school culture is underpinned by a set of enduring values and expert learner qualities that have been shaped by the community. These are evident in all that we undertake as a school. They guide our learners to develop resilience, actively participate, consider others and continually reflect, in order to grow.

Colonel Light Gardens is an historic suburb situated just south of the Adelaide CBD. The campus is located adjacent to the beautiful surrounds of Mortlock Park and features a mix of modern and historic buildings named after key local identities associated with the early history of the suburb.

The school currently has an enrolment of around 680 students. Interest in our school continues to be strong due to its excellent reputation, strong academic results and a vast array of extracurricular opportunities and programs. A ‘zone of right’ is currently in place to ensure the access rights of families living within the defined school zone. Each year we do accept some students in Reception from ‘out of zone’ to maintain our 4 Reception classes.

Our partnership with parents, families and the local community is an important feature of our school. We actively connect, inform and seek ongoing feedback from all of our stakeholders. Our parents and community members take great pride and interest in our school. The Governing Council is passionate and highly motivated to ensure the ongoing success of the school through a desire to fully support the teaching staff, the curriculum and a vast array of extra-curricular opportunities.

We believe lifelong learning begins in the early years through fostering an inquiring mind, positivity, confidence and exploration. Our students engage in inquiry learning processes to help them become critical thinkers and active global citizens who can make a difference within their world .

We offer a comprehensive curriculum from Reception to Year 6 with explicit focus on developing strong skills in literacy and numeracy. Student learning is further enriched through the specialist subjects; performing arts, Japanese, visual arts, physical education and technology.

I look forward to the opportunity to share our school so please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Kind regards
Liz Pelling
